We started ourstemjourney out of a need to help young women pursue a career in science and technology. Looking at the data, the number of young women in Spain pursuing a career in science keeps being very low.
In Spain, only 1 in 4 students study engineering and areas like electrical engineering or computer science
ourstemjourney aims to revert this.
Research points to various causes ranging from lack of confidence in girls from a very young age, perception of STEM as male oriented and less socially acceptable, lack of parents’ expectations for daughters to focus on STEM and lack of role models for young women in science.
Our mission is to help young women in Spain to pursue careers in STEM by providing them with knowledge, expert advice, skills and a strong mentorship program.
We see this as a journey, a journey that starts by helping high school girls find the best advice to find the STEM programs that fulfill their interests. A journey that continues with mentors that can help them throughout their college life and as they enter their professional careers.
Mentorship is at the core of what we want to offer. We want to engage mentors that can be true role models for young women in Spain. Equally, we want our mentees to share what they learn, to give back to others.
We are convinced that offering the right advice and access to role models and mentors can go a long way in shaping the careers of young talented women in Spain. This is our goal, to help young women with a passion for science and tech access the best programs globally and have fulfilling careers. Our young mentees will commit to giving back and helping others and the wheel will turn and impact many other journeys.
We are five founders in all different journey stages from high school, college, early graduates and professionals in tech. We know it is not an easy path. We are excited to make it easier!
